In 1777,Jones was given command of a ship called the Ranger.from the Portsmouth
shipyard.He saild to France, then very daringly took the war to the very shores of the British isles.In 1778,he capcherd a British War ship named Drake

It was only after a long delay that was given another ship it was a old French merchantman,it was rebuilt and "Bon homme Richar "to honeor Bergman Francklin.
